The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) will host an open house public meeting on Thursday, June 6, to discuss proposed improvements to Farm to Market Road 1397 (Summerhill Road) between University Avenue and North Park Road. The meeting will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church Atrium, 3015 Moores Lane in Texarkana.

The proposed improvements include:

Widening FM 1397 to include four travel lanes, a center left-turn lane, bike lanes and sidewalks
Increased sight distance at intersections to improve safety

The proposed project will improve safety and enhance mobility. Additional right of way will be required to construct the project and employees from the right of way section will be available to answer any questions about the process of acquiring the properties.

The meeting is open to the public and attendees can come and go at their convenience to view maps, study exhibits, ask questions and provide comments. Additional information about the project and meeting can be viewed at www.txdot.gov and conducting a keyword search of “FM 1397” or contacting Glenn R. Yowell, P.E., at 903-799-1204.
