TEXARKANA, Texas–Texarkana, Texas Police were informed of a theft that occurred in the 4400 block of W. 7th St.  The victim advised police that on September 10, 2014 at approximately 10:30am he had been approached by a black male with an African accent in the 500 block of Walton Dr.

The victim stated that he drove the victim to a restaurant in the 4400 block of W.7th St. where the suspect called over another black male and began talking to him.  One of the suspects told the victim that he had inherited half a million dollars and asked if the victim thought the banks in town were ok.  The suspect requested that the victim withdraw some money from his bank to prove it.  The suspect advised the victim if he would assist him he would give him a large amount of cash.  The victim went to his bank and withdrew an undisclosed amount of cash.  Upon returning the suspect asked if he could hold the money and walk around the restaurant to prove that they could trust each other. The suspects never returned and apparently fled with the money.

The manner in which the event unfolded is a common tactic of con artists and is a scheme Law Enforcement is acutely aware of. It is important that the public be aware of these tactics and use caution if approached by strangers asking you to withdraw money from the bank or provide them with cash.  The Texarkana Texas Police Department wants to warn the community that if a deal seems too good to be true it probably is a scam.

Photographs of the suspects are included.  Anyone with information on this incident or any other is asked to contact the Texarkana, Texas Police Department at 903-798-3116 or CrimeStoppers at 903-793-STOP (7867).
