Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas will host its fourth annual Hiring Red, White and You! Hiring fair on Thursday, Nov. 12th, 2015. The event will take place at the Texarkana Convention Center from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. The hiring fair will be open to veterans and their spouses from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and open to the general public from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The hiring fair is part of a statewide initiative to connect veterans and their spouses with employers who value the experience, discipline and other exceptional qualities inherent with a military background. It is a joint effort of Texas Medical Center, the Texas Veterans Commission and the Texas Workforce Commission and Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas.
Veterans bring a wide variety of valuable skill-sets and abilities to the workplace and play a critical role in the workforce. This is especially true in Texas, where 1.7 million veterans, comprising approximately 7% of America’s total veteran population reside. With the recent end of America’s nine-year war in Iraq and the current downsize of U.S. troops in Afghanistan, a massive number of unemployed veterans are returning home to the United States.
Last year’s local event was a great success with participation from 60 employers and organizations and more than 300 job seekers in attendance. Statewide Hiring Red, White & You! events attracted more than 9,000 job seekers and 1,742 employers. The events also resulted in approximately 431 on site hires and many more connections made that resulted in interviews and post-event job offers.
This year’s event is expected to top last year’s in the number of participating employers and job seekers. The Hiring Red, White and You! Hiring fair currently has more than 80 participating employers and that number will continue to grow as we approach Nov. 12th.
Participating employers this year include: Christus St Michael, AE COM, Humco Holding Group, International Paper, and many others. A complete list of participating employers can be found online at www.netxworkforce.org.
Job seekers are encouraged to register an account in “Work In Texas” prior to the event. Registration is available online at www.workintexas.com and at the Greater Texarkana Workforce Center located at 1702 Hampton Road, Texarkana, Texas. Registration will be required prior to entering the job fair on the 12th. Job seekers should bring copies of their resume and come “dressed to impress,” prepared to interview on site.
