Texarkana Independent School District is hosting a Teacher Job Fair on Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Texas High School, located at 4001 Summerhill Road.

They are seeking opportunities to hire teachers in all areas and campuses, and representatives from all TISD Elementary and Secondary schools will be present to conduct interviews on the spot.

TISD typically hires around 75 teachers each year, with high need areas in bilingual instruction, mathematics, science, and special education.

Requirements for applicants include a teaching certification; however, alternative certification programs allow Texas residents with Bachelor’s degrees outside of Education to be hired after their content exam is passed, but have not yet earned certification.

TISD can accept out of state certifications too.  For example, applicants can come from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, etc., and still be hired without any additional mandated training or schooling.

One of the biggest things that Amy Nix, Director of Human Services for TISD, hears repeatedly from Principals is that their teachers have a great ability to build relationships with their students. “So we really seek out that in the applicants.  It’s important that students look forward to coming to school and pursuing their interests,” she explains.

The school district has a cornucopia of course offerings, including a variety clubs, and extracurricular opportunities for students in all grades.

“We have the highest starting salary in Region 8 of Texas and a strong support system for teachers so that they can effectively do their job and grow as a professional,” emphasized Nix.
