cinemarktexarkanaclosedThursday, 9:00 AM – As of Thursday, September 4, 2014, Texarkana, Texas assistant fire chief Chris Black has ordered Cinemark movie theatre closed until the sprinkler system in the building is repaired and in functioning order. The sprinkler system is suspected to have failed due to a leak in the underground water line behind the building.
The building was inspected on Wednesday afternoon, September 3, 2014 and was placed on fire watch as a precaution. Around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday morning city officials surveyed the business again, discovered the scope of the issue was significant, and made a determination that the building was unsafe for the public. The acting manager of Cinemark was notified of the closure. City officials continue to work with theatre management to reopen the theatre as quickly as possible without risking public safety.
