Monday, September 4, 2014 | John Ratcliffe visited the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce on Monday (September 2, 2014). Mr. Ratclifff requested the visit because he wanted to discuss the bigger issues affecting the Texarkana area.
John Ratcliffe won the run-off election against incumbent Congressman Ralph Hall to win the Republican nomination for the 4th Congressional District. Since he does not have any major party challengers, many believe he is a shoe-in to win the Congressional seat that begins on January 3, 2015.
The issues that John Ratcliffe and the key industrial leaders in Texarkana discussed were tax policy, environmental and regulatory concerns, Red River Army Depot support, international trade and global competitiveness, amongst other topics.Bill Cork, the President of Texarkana Chamber of Commerce, also discussed with Mr. Ratcliffe about his transition process, future committee assignments, and participation in various congressional caucuses that are important to NE Texas.
Bill Cork had the following to say about the meeting:
Mr. Ratcliffe is a smart guy with a great work ethic and good Texas values that will represent us well in Congress. He asked us tough questions and we had a frank dialogue on many topics important to our partnership and business in the greater Texarkana area. The Chamber was proud to host his visit and look forward to many more after he assumes office in January”, Bill Cork reported.
John Ratcliffe had the following to say about the meeting:
I appreciate Bill Cork and the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce hosting a round table discussion with community and business leaders. We discussed a number of topics including the vital role the Red River Army Depot plays in the region and how to continue effective economic development in Northeast Texas. Additionally, with my background as a former terrorism prosecutor, we talked about the situation in the Middle East and what our government can do to combat the ongoing threat of radical Islamic extremism. During the campaign, I made over 25 trips to Texarkana, and in Congress am committed to continuing to serve this area as the United States Representative.
