City Council members and citizens got a look in the abandoned Kress building in downtown Texarkana today.

The building has recently been in the spotlight due to a resolution before city council to tear the building down at a cost of $300,000

Ordinance No. 2015-038 amending the budget expenditures for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2015 in an amount not to exceed $300,000 for the demolition of the Kress building located at 116 West Broad Street.

The building was initially cited in February of 1979 by building officals and the fire captain for not meeting code requirements. In August of 2002 the city building and standard commission ordered demolition.

The issue was on the council agenda tonight for a second briefing. A final vote is scheduled for May 26, 2015.
