AHS Band Chosen as 5A Honor Ensemble

For the first time in the history of the Arkansas High School band program, the AHS band, directed by Gary Meggs, will represent Texarkana Arkansas School District at the All-State Music Conference.

After submitting two recorded performances from the Region Concert Assessment, “National Emblem March” by EE Bagley and “Steel” by Arkansas composer Randall Standridge, the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association chose the AHS band as the AAAAA Honor Ensemble.

Other criteria to submit a recording for consideration were:

  • Each ensemble submitting recordings must have made the first division at ASBOA Region Concert Assessment to apply;
  • One submitted selection must be march and the other a selection from the ASBOA or UIL list.
  • Both selections must have been recorded during the school year of submission and must be unedited.

The AHS band will play five pieces during the February 2019 All-State Music Conference which will take place in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
