Mother, Dr. Kimberly Ellison and her daughter, McKinley find time to bond, regardless of where they are or what is going on. They’re on a mission to help encourage other girls and their moms to strengthen their relationships and make meaningful memories with one another through their book, “Stay-cation,” which McKinley, a kindergartener, wrote herself.
“We wrote Mommy & McKinley’s “Stay-cation,” A Girls Only Weekend based on our “real-life” mommy and daughter adventures,” said Kimberly Ellison, Ph.D. “Our story is based on true-events and we want to encourage moms and daughters to spend time together bonding, building their communication and relationship skills, and encourage busy moms to make their relationship a priority.”
The Ellison girls are hosting a Sparkle Publishing Summer Readers Program to enhance creative thinking and writing skills for girls. They are in Texarkana with hopes to inspire and empower girls to love to read and write. They discuss playing dress up, eating ice cream, mommy-daughter dates, and more to capture the interests of young girls and help inspire ideas of how they too can have fun at home.
“Having a strong mother and daughter bond may not be every young girl’s reality, however through our story, we hope to encourage more meaningful relationships with young girls and their mothers. or mother figures. My true hope is to spark creativity in the minds of young girls to use their imagination to create their story!”
With the support of State Farm-Derrick McGary and Summer Sparkle Readers Program, there will be a Pajama, Popcorn, and Pizza party ,Mommy & McKinley’s “Stay-cation” book signing and bonding event, for mother’s and their daughters ages 5-12, on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Texarkana Public Library, Texarkana, Texas, from 2:30-4:30 PM.
