Green Texarkana to be held Saturday

unnamed (31)Green Texarkana, a monthly recycling event, will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at East Third and Hazel Streets in Texarkana, Ark.

The event provides an opportunity to recycle plastic, cardboard, paper, tin cans and aluminum cans. Household electronics such as TVs, computers, radios, printers and DVD players will also be accepted.

Items that will not be accepted include:

  • Glass
  • Styrofoam
  • Furniture
  • Tires
  • Carpet
  • Hazardous materials
  • Paint
  • Pesticides
  • Wood

Green Texarkana provides a drop site the second Saturday of each month where recyclables are collected. The following materials are accepted at Green Texarkana:

  • Aluminum and tin cans, rinsed (labels do not have to be removed)
  • Aluminum foil, rinsed
  • Paper and cardboard
  • Plastics No. 1-7 (check the bottom of the product for a number), such as water bottles, milk jugs and detergent bottles, rinsed (the lids are recyclable, too)
  • Electronics such as TVs, computers and printers
  • Ink and toner cartridges

Items do not need to be separated to recycle them at Green Texarkana. After items leave the drop site the material is sent to facilities where it is sorted and processed for recycling.
