Junior Achievement of Texarkana has named Kaitlyn Flanagan its new Executive Director. Flanagan accepted the position in November and has begun working toward setting and achieving goals set forth by the national parent organization and the local board of directors.  “JA has an extraordinary mission and I am so glad I get to play a part in seeing it at work,” said Flanagan.

Flanagan is a graduate of Southern Arkansas University with a degree in communication. She states that one of her goals is to increase public awareness of what the organization is doing. “So many children are reached though this program, and it seems so few community members know we are able to teach these lessons,” said Flanagan. “I look forward to getting into the community and letting people know about the great things going on while forming meaningful partnerships that will help strengthen the community as a whole.”

During the 2013-14 school year more than 1200 students attended classes taught by JA volunteers. Flanagan hopes to see that number increase. “The classes cover financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. These skills are so important and we are so glad we get the opportunity to introduce them to students at such a young age,” said Flanagan.

“We have so many exciting things coming up to support the crucial programming offered through JA. Plans are in full swing preparing for our annual bowl-a-thon and we are looking at several other fun ways to involve the community in accomplishing our mission,” said Flanagan.
