Resident Shoots Suspected Burglar

Texarkana, Texas Police are investigating a possible home invasion and shooting that occurred this afternoon in the 500 block of King Street.

At approximately 1:15 p.m. today Texarkana, Texas Police responded to a shots fired call in the area of Celeste and King Streets in the Beverly neighborhood. While checking the area, officers located 20 year old Dakyree Hawkins of Texarkana, Texas lying in the street in the 600 block of Jerome Street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper thigh.

While Hawkins was being attended to by emergency medical personnel, the officers located a trail of blood that appeared to have been left by Hawkins. The trail led the officers to the home of 33 year old Andre Harris in the 500 block of King Street. Harris told the officers that a man had forced his way into his home and that he fired multiple shots at the man with a handgun to protect himself.

Hawkins was taken to Wadley Hospital for treatment of his injury. His current condition is not known.

This case is still being investigated by detectives and charges have not yet been filed.
