School bus carrying football team crashes on way to Dequeen

According to Arkansas State Police at approximately 3:45 Friday troopers were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash involving a Lakeside School District bus that was transporting the football team members to DeQueen.

The crash scene is reported to be along U.S. Highway 70 near the Newhope community in Pike County.

According to a State Police news release at least eight students were transported to the hospital in Nashville, Ark. by parents or other family members. Two students, along with the bus driver, identified as an assistant coach, were transported to a Hot Springs hospital.

None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening.

According to the release the school bus was traveling westbound and for reasons not certain yet in the investigation, veered across the eastbound lane striking an embankment along the south side of the highway.
