16 year old Paul Martin and 15 year old Betty Jo Booker were killed 69 years ago tonight at the entrance to Spring Lake Park. Although they were not the first victims of the “Phantom Killer” their attack was when people started realizing there was a serial killer on the loose in Texarkana.

On February 22, 1946 Jimmy Hollis and his girlfriend Mary Jeanne Larey were attacked and beaten while parked on a secluded road known as “lovers’ lane.” The attack happened near where Cowhorn Creek intersects Richmond Rd. today. Mary Jeanne Larey ran to a house at 805 Blanton Street and the homeowner called police. Both Jimmy and Mary Jeanne survived the ordeal.

A man and woman were arrested May 27 after leading area law enforcement on a high speed chase that reached 100 mph going through Wake Village, Nash, and Texarkana.

The chase started when a Wake Village Officer attempted to stop a burgundy Tahoe on Old Redwater Rd.

Wake Village Police, Nash Police, Bowie County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Bowie County Constables, and Texarkana, Texas Police Department all participated in the chase.

The suspect led a deputy in the wrong direction down N. Bishop Street for a short time before turning onto New Boston Rd. and then onto the Loop northbound.

Officers lost the vehicle for a short time in the area around Pleasant Grove Rd. and Cooper Ln. before spotting it again on Hughes Rd. near Pleasant Grove Rd.

18. City treats Bringle Lake Park with ‘Snake Away’ due to snake sighting (24,200 views)

On May 11 The City of Texarkana, Texas investigated reports of a large snake being found on a tree at Bringle Lake Park.

According to Texarkana, Texas public information officer Lisa Thompson, “it appears to be a domesticated pet that someone releases in the area, because the species is not native to the site.”

Thompson went on to say that the city has treated the park with Snake Away and are assessing the best course of action for this specific animal.

17. Correctional officer assaulted by inmate at Telford Unit dies (24,500 views)

On July 15 47 year-old Timothy Davison a correctional officer at the Telford unit in New Boston, Texas was killed after being assaulted by a prisoner.

The offender has been identified as 37 year old Billy Joel Tracy. He is serving a life sentence for aggravated assault and burglary of a habitation. He was also convicted of assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with serious bodily injury on a public servant, and possession of a deadly weapon in a penal institution and is serving 45 years for those offenses.

16. Man arrested for chasing and ramming woman’s car after being turned down at Fat Jacks (24,600 views)

A Hooks, Texas man is facing aggravated assault charges for allegedly chasing and ramming a car after one of the driver’s friends turned down his advances at Fat Jacks early Wednesday morning.

According to a report written by Texarkana, Arkansas Police Officer Cochran police were dispatched to Fat Jacks around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday in reference to a disturbance in progress call.

15. Fouke man accused of molesting miniature mare (26,900 views)

A Fouke, Ark., man was arrested by the Miller County Sheriff’s Office in early November for sexual misconduct with a miniature horse.

Ryan Danyl McDonald, 37, had been warned July 2 by deputies to stay away from the horse farm in Genoa, Ark., where he was taken into custody Oct. 30. A deputy on patrol noticed a van parked in the woods on the west side of Miller County 70 south of Tennessee Road at approximately 1:30 a.m., according to an arrest affidavit.

When confronted with the previous criminal trespass warning and several plastic bags of whole corn found in a cooler in the van, McDonald reportedly told the deputies he had been “fornicating” with the animals.

According to Texarkana, Arkansas Police Jon Russel the victim from the Electric Cowboy is now deceased.

Taylor Rogers, 25, was arrested in connection with the injuries suffered August 29 by 32-year-old Jon Russell at the Texarkana nightclub, according to Texarkana, Ark., police Corporal Kristi Bennett.

Police were dispatched to the Electric Cowboy at approximately 3 a.m. to assist an ambulance. Russell was unconscious when transported to St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana with a suspected head injury.

13. Scott Roberts Murder (30,300 views)

Almost five months have passed since a local pilot was found shot to death in his Texarkana home. The question of who killed Scott Roberts remains a mystery.

Concerned family members went to Roberts’ home in the 1800 block of Garland Street in Texarkana, Ark., when they were unable to reach him by phone. There they discovered Roberts’ lifeless body and made a panicked call to 911.

Police have released few details about the crime other than that Roberts, 40, died of multiple gunshot wounds. A possible motive for the murder hasn’t surfaced. Investigators won’t disclose the caliber of bullets recovered from Roberts’ body or say how many times he was shot.

A video shot this summer by a Texarkana resident on vacation in Florida went viral today.

The video shot by Jason Neely, owner of Neeley’s Towing in Texarkana, at the Pensacola Beach Air Show this weekend has had over 1.3 million views.

In the video a Blue Angels F/A-18 makes a very low pass along the beach which sends  tents, umbrellas and canopies flying into the air.

Jason told TXK Today that the moment he watched the video he knew it was going to be a sensation.
