UPDATE – TAPD released the following statement Monday morning.

“Currently Texarkana Arkansas Detectives are working diligently to determine suspect information involving the recent homicide of Michael Scott Roberts, which occurred last Friday, July 3rd, 2015 at his residence on Garland Street. At this time there is no further information to release on this case.”

Texarkana, Arkansas police are currently investigating a possible homicide in the 1800 block of Garland, Ave.

According to TAPD public information officer Corporal Kristi Bennett officers responded to a 911 call in the 1800 Block of Garland Ave. Friday at approximately 11:30am on a report of a possible suicide.

“Patrol Officers arriving on scene found a deceased man inside the home, later identified as 40-year-old Michael Scott Roberts, with what appeared to them to be gunshot wounds to the body,” said Bennett.

Officers at the scene requested the Criminal Investigation Division send the Crime Scene Unit and Investigators to the residence.

According to Bennett the Criminal Investigation Division is treating this as a possible homicide and are conducting a thorough investigation at this time. The body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

“This investigation is ongoing and no additional information can be released at this time,” said Bennett.

Update – Police cleared the name for release and included it in a press release but at the request of a family member we have removed the victim’s name until later Friday evening to ensure that all family members are notified.
