Union Students Hold Hour of Code Event

December 8, 2014 | In recognition of Computer Science Education Week, Union Elementary – Da Vinci School is holding an Hour of Code event onThursday, December 11 at 1:00 p.m. Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics.

“Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity,” said Denise Howorth, magnet facilitator. “By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st – century path.”

President Barak Obama, actress Angela Bassett, Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, actor Ashton Kutcher, and Bill Gates are among the over 53-million people who have tried the Hour of Code.

Students are excited to showcase their learning and have invited parents, business partners, and community members to attend the Hour of Code in Union’s new Apple lab.
