Lawrence “Scokkie” Alwyn Gibson, Jr.

On the morning of June 5, 2025, Scokkie passed away at Hospice of Texarkana. He was 84 years old.

Scokkie was born February 14, 1941 in Wichita Falls, TX to L.A. Gibson, Sr. and Dee Gibson.

Sokkie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judy Gibson, children Stephanie Canipe (Cliff), Alfie Thomas (John), sibling Bob “Tinkie” Gibson, and grandchildren, Camille, Natalie (Carson), Wesley, Jake, Audrey, and Grace.

Scokkie grew up in Wake Village and attended Texas High, in Texarkana and Henderson State College.

He was the principal owner and operator of his family business, Gibson Asphalt, in Texarkana for sixty years.

Scokkie loved God and he was a faithful son, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He met Christ 40 years ago.. He loved music and always enjoyed telling a funny story. He was kind and generous to everyone he knew.

Scokkie was preceded in death by his parents, L.A. Gibson, Sr. and Dee Gibson and great grandchild, Lucas John Kidd.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to Scokkie’s caregivers at Encompass Rehab Hospital of Texarkana and Hospice of Texarkana for their care for Scokkie in his final days.
