From the Lone Star State to the Great North: Shared Trends in Digital Play

It’s easy to look at individual trends by location, especially when you’re trying to get a more manageable sample size with which to work. That makes sense, but it can also create blind spots in how certain things are enjoyed across vast distances.

What can be illuminating in this regard is to look at trends that go beyond specific areas – creating a map of how digital entertainment is engaged with across demographics. After all, if you’re looking at something which is available through a smartphone – which is in turn available to huge numbers of people – it can point to why something does or doesn’t appeal equally to different groups.

Access Points and Online Casinos

While many consoles are very popular, and while many people might have access to a PC of some kind – people might not always be interested enough in gaming to get those devices (or powerful enough of one) to take that leap. The fact that everyone has access to a smartphone makes mobile gaming a natural entry point for many people, especially through bridges like playing an online casino in Ontario, where a player can take their knowledge of physical games and translate that into digital. On such encrypted and SSL certified platforms, players can access familiar activities as well as games that are only made possible through the digital format – slots themed around sports or films like Basketball Star or Bridesmaids, as well as RPG slots with cutting-edge audio-visual design.

Widespread, Free Games

The other type of mobile game that might easily find its way into multiple communities could be games that are simply readily available. This doesn’t only mean that they’re free for download on a widely available device like a smartphone, but it also means they have enough awareness behind them for players to be interested in the first place. Sometimes, this might be because of a strong marketing campaign, other times, just word of mouth. During the early days of mobile gaming, there were many games that managed to find their way into the public consciousness this way – Temple Run, Fruit Ninja, Angry Birds, and that’s just to name a few. Now, games that are ported from other consoles and have cross-play enabled with other platforms, like Fortnite and Rocket League, can do very well with people who are otherwise relatively unfamiliar with gaming.

Engaging the Human Brain

On some level, it shouldn’t be surprising that the same games manage to be successful across vast distances when many of them use the same kinds of methods and psychology to engage players. While many players might be aware of these methods on some level, it’s also likely that they still achieve the desired outcome. For example, when you level up in a game and there’s a lot of visual and audio fanfare, you might be aware that it’s trying to set off your reward pathways, but that might not stop it from working. Games of all genres do this, even if the exact ways that they go about it vary depending on the mood and tone they’re trying to create.
