Former Scholarship Recipient From Bowie County Named ASPSF Volunteer Of The Month
TEXARKANA, USA — The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund has named Daneshia Cherry of Bowie County as its July 2026 Volunteer of the Month, recognizing a former scholarship recipient who is now paying that support forward to the next generation of single parents.
Cherry’s connection to ASPSF began long before she became a volunteer. As a former scholarship recipient and single parent, she experienced firsthand the support the organization provides to students pursuing higher education while raising a family.
“As an ASPSF alumnus, volunteering has been especially meaningful to me,” Cherry said.
Over the past year, she has assisted with scholarship applications, interviews, and award ceremonies, helping create a welcoming and encouraging experience for fellow single parents.
“ASPSF played a major role in helping me earn my bachelor’s degree,” Cherry said. “Serving as a volunteer allows me to give back to an organization that had such a positive impact on my life and educational journey.”
Cherry currently serves as Housing Director at Ark-Tex Council of Governments. A first-generation college graduate, she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M University in December 2025 and is now halfway through her MBA program.
Her commitment to service extends beyond ASPSF. Cherry stays involved in community activities throughout the region and continues to find ways to support others.
As an ASPSF alumna, volunteer, and advocate for education, Cherry embodies the power of giving back — demonstrating how a scholarship can become a lasting connection that inspires recipients to support the next generation of single parents pursuing their goals.
Since 1990, ASPSF has awarded more than $50 million in scholarships and provided services that empower single parents to complete their education and pursue higher-paying careers across Arkansas.
