Rickey Kevin Barnett, 66, of Texarkana, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13, 2026, at a local nursing home.
Born on June 14, 1960, in Texarkana, Texas, to Lawrence and Eva Barnett, Rickey was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures and treasured the people he loved most. He spent many years serving his community as a correctional officer with the Bowie County Correctional Center, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.
Outside of work, Rickey enjoyed searching for hidden treasures at flea markets and looked forward to traveling whenever he had the opportunity. Whether he was exploring somewhere new or spending quiet time with family, he appreciated the moments that brought people together.
Above all, Rickey was a devoted husband and a caring, kindhearted man. His gentle spirit, sense of humor, and genuine love for others made him someone people enjoyed being around. He was the kind of person who never met a stranger and always found a way to make those around him feel welcome. His family will forever cherish the memories they shared with him, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing and loving him.
Rickey was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Eva Barnett, and by his brother, Mickey Barnett.
Those left to honor and cherished his memory include his beloved wife, Renee Barnett, along with many cousins and extended family members who loved him dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Chapelwood Funeral Home, with Brother Wallace Edger officiating. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Chapelwood Funeral Home.
Though Rickey’s time on earth has come to an end, the love he shared, the memories he created, and the lives he touched will remain in the hearts of those who loved him forever.
