Two arrested hours after Texarkana ATM theft

Two Texarkana, Arkansas, residents were arrested Tuesday afternoon in central Arkansas, about four hours after an ATM was broken into near Stateline Avenue and College Drive, police said.

Keanu White, 29, and Andreana White, 28, were taken into custody after Rockport police and Arkansas State Police located a Honda Accord near Malvern around 4:30 p.m. A search of the vehicle turned up cash believed to have been taken from the ATM, according to police.

Both are being held in the Hot Springs County Jail on felony theft charges.

Investigators said detectives identified vehicles connected to the theft using video from nearby businesses and Flock Safety license plate reader cameras. Detectives determined the suspects switched vehicles shortly after the theft. The second vehicle was later found abandoned on E. 35th Street by the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department.

Police said TAPD’s help in locating that vehicle and obtaining a search warrant was a critical piece of the investigation. Information recovered from the abandoned vehicle led detectives to the Honda Accord, where the suspects were found in Rockport, roughly 130 miles northeast of Texarkana.

Police credited the speed of the arrests to cooperation between agencies and to the video and camera evidence available to detectives.

“Cases like this show what can happen when good investigative work, technology, and law enforcement agencies work together,” the department said in a statement.

Police thanked the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department, the Rockport Police Department and the Arkansas State Police for their assistance.

Both suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
