Court Records Detail Decades‑Old Allegations Behind Arrest of Louie Ben George

Newly filed court records outline what led to last week’s arrest of Louie Ben George, 87, and reveal allegations that stretch back more than three decades.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed Monday in Bowie County, George is accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a young child in the office of Oak Grove Baptist Church after Wednesday night Bible study during the 1990s. Investigators say the abuse began when the child was a toddler, initially involving touching over clothing, and escalated over several years. The affidavit states George allegedly gave the child treats afterward to keep her quiet, and the abuse continued until she reached elementary school.

The victim, now an adult, has reportedly provided police with text messages in which George apologizes for what he did.

Two additional women have told Texarkana, Texas, police that George was sexually inappropriate with them when they were teenagers. One reported that George offered her privileges and treats in exchange for allowing him to touch her.

TTPD says it believes there may be more victims, given George’s long association with the church. Anyone with information is urged to contact the department.

George remains in the Bowie County jail on a charge of sexual assault of a child, with bail set at $500,000. If convicted, he faces two to 20 years in prison.
