2nd annual Better Block Texarkana May 16

Better Block Texarkana will return for a second year to downtown Texarkana on May 16th, 2015 to breathe life back into the Broad Street area in conjunction with Railfest and the opening of the Texarkana Texas Farmers’ Market. Vendors are needed for the Better Block event, to give participants an idea of what downtown Texarkana could be when more businesses and residents call the space “home”.

This event, which is free and open to the public, will again be a one day “pop-up” block which will give citizens a taste of what downtown could be by transforming the street into a pedestrian and cyclist-friendly area, complete with landscaping touches and vendor-occupied storefronts for the public to browse. Vendor applications are being accepted now at http://www.betterblocktxk.com/become-a-vendor/. Interested business owners can also call Ina McDowell to secure a spot at (903) 792-7191.

The project is again being organized by community activist Lee Medley, along with support from the City of Texarkana, Texas, the City of Texarkana, Arkansas, Main Street Texarkana, Greater Texarkana Young Professionals and the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce, along with representatives from the business community.  More volunteers are needed to pull the event together both in planning efforts and on the day of the event.

For more information, to sign up to be a volunteer or to make a donation, visit http://www.betterblocktxk.com/, find “Better Block Texarkana” on facebook, or contact Lee Medley at lee@columbiapro.com.
