Man Accused Of Fighting With Cops Facing 5 Felonies

TEXARKANA, Texas–A man accused of assaulting three police officers and spitting on two others during a trespassing arrest at a Texarkana convenience store is facing five felony charges in connection with his alleged misconduct.

Matthew Price-Dukes, 35, was allegedly threatening staff on Aug. 13 at the Total Stop at 4020 S. Lake Drive, leading to a call for help from law enforcement, according to a probable cause affidavit. When officers arrived, Price-Dukes was allegedly argumentative with officers and refused to provide them with his identification.

Price-Dukes refused to leave the property after being told that representatives of the store wanted him banned from the property.

When Officer Matthew Lindsey attempted to place Price-Dukes under arrest, Price-Dukes allegedly punched him in the face. Price-Dukes then punched a second officer in the face. Officer Lindsey and the second officer each deployed rounds from their JPX pepper spray guns, striking Price-Dukes in the face.

Price-Dukes then struck a third officer, Sgt. Kimberly Weaver, in the side of the head.

Price-Dukes continued to struggle with the officers as he was taken to the ground. While officers were placing Price-Dukes in a WRAP, or full-body restraint device, Price-Dukes allegedly spit on Sgt. Weaver and Officer Aaron Jones.

Price-Dukes has been charged with three felony counts of assault on a public servant and two counts of felony harassment of a public servant for his alleged punching and spitting. If convicted, Price-Dukes faces two to ten years in prison on each of the five felony charges.

Price-Dukes has also been charged with misdemeanor trespassing, resisting arrest and evading arrest, court records show.

Price-Dukes is currently being held in the Bowie County jail. His bail amounts total $473,000, jail records show.

Price-Dukes is represented by the Bowie County Public Defender’s Office. The case has been assigned to 202nd District Judge John Tidwell.
