Man loses leg in hit and run crash while checking mail

A Texarkana woman is facing charges after hitting a man checking his mail on Richmond Rd. with her car and leaving the scene.

The accident happened just before 1 p.m. on May 9.

According to a TxDOT crash report, 18-year-old Angela Cox was driving north on FM 559 when she failed to maintain a single lane of travel and left the roadway striking the victim and his mailbox.

According to the victim’s attorney, Bruce Flint, the crash severed the man’s leg.

According to the report the victim was standing in front of his mailbox, which is located four feet from the white fog line, and did not see the vehicle approaching.

After striking the victim Cox failed to stop or return to the scene and continued traveling north on FM 559, the report states.

The vehicle was located the next day by contacting local body shops.

According to the report charges are pending against Cox.
