Minor Fender Bender Turns Violent: Texarkana Man Accused of Attacking Elderly Couple, Stealing $750
TEXARKANA, Texas–A Texarkana man accused of assaulting a 73-year-old man and robbing him and his 64-year-old driver after a minor accident in a convenience store parking lot is being held in the Bowie County jail with bail set at more than $100,000.
Freddie Lee Miller, 31, was in a white 2009 Ford Fusion when his bumper was struck on March 24 by a red Nissan Sentra being driven by a 64-year-old woman in a parking lot at 1003 Bowie St., according to a probable cause affidavit filed this week. The Sentra’s 73-year-old passenger reportedly got out and provided Miller with their insurance information before entering the store to make a small purchase.
When the passenger exited the store, he was holding $11 in change, the affidavit said. As the 73-year-old man neared the Sentra, Miller allegedly grabbed the cash he was holding and hit him several times.
Miller allegedly returned to the Fusion, got back in and then got back out again, the affidavit said. Miller allegedly went back to the Sentra, grabbed the woman’s purse out of the car and left the scene in the Fusion with the man’s cash and the woman’s purse.
The altercation was reportedly captured on the store’s surveillance camera.
The woman’s purse was found about a block away, allegedly missing about $750 in cash, the affidavit said.
Miller has been charged with aggravated robbery and faces five to 99 years or life in prison if convicted.
Jail records show Miller was arrested last week for the aggravated robbery charge and for a misdemeanor charge of driving while license invalid.
The case has been assigned to 102nd District Judge Jeff Addison. No attorney of record was listed Thursday for Miller.
