The Texarkana, Texas City Council voted Monday night unanimously to approve a plan allowing for the construction of a new fire station.

To be Located north of the interstate on McKnight Road and University Avenue, the new fire station will provide faster response times and will replace the current, Station Three, at 5706 Richmond Road.

The rationale for the move is to help the Fire Department avoid Richmond Road traffic which can hinder response times.

Also approved at last night’s meeting was funding to provide a bridge over Wagner creek connecting to portions of Gibson Lane to aide in response times.

Both projects are to be paid for by the issuance of over $7 million in bonds.

Extended plans include the replacement of Texarkana’s two other Fire Stations on the North-side of town.

City officials feel that these moves are prudent to serve the expanding northern Texarkana population.
