One student is injured after a stabbing that took place just before 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, on a Texas Independent School District school bus.

According to TISD Executive Director of Public Relations, Tina Veal Gooch, the assault took place at 7:50 Thursday morning on bus #587.

The bus was transporting a total of 25 high school students at the time of the stabbing, all whom were removed from the school bus to be questioned, as well as transported in a different bus.

According to TISD, three females were involved in the incident. One of the three stabbed another four times with what appears to be a pocket knife.

“We are reviewing video, speaking to all students on the bus, and getting a statement from the bus driver as well. There is a strong possibility that this could move to being something that was premeditated,” explained Veal-Gooch.

The female student responsible for the stabbing was taken into custody by TISD police and is being charged with aggravated assault.

The assault took place after a TISD bus made its routine stop to pick up additional students at Hazel Street and 22nd Street.

In a release from TISD, after further investigation it was concluded that the victim was stabbed between 5 – 8 times (# still pending) and was immediately taken to CHRISTUS St. Michael Health Care System where her wounds have been treated and the family is waiting on a physician to determine if any surgery will be necessary.

Texas High School Principal Brad Bailey has been with the family most of the morning.

The accused was taken into custody by the Texarkana ISD Police Department. Currently, she is still being interviewed and will be transported to Bi-State Justice to go before a judge and the arrest be made.

“We are not certain of what the final charge will be but it could possibly be Aggravated Assault. Confirmation on the weapon used was a standard pocket knife,” explained TISD in the release.

The third student involved in the altercation was questioned and released.

According to TISD, Mr. Bailey, Texas High School Principal, contacted all parents of those students in order to have them sent home for the day given what they experienced on the bus this morning.
