William Roy Ward, age 88, of Lufkin, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

William Roy Ward, age 88, of Lufkin, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 5, 1937, in Prescott, Arkansas, to Elva Evelyn Moore Ward and James Hesterly Ward.
William dedicated his career to the electrical trade, retiring after 30 years with International Paper. He was also a proud member of IBEW Local 301 for more than 60 years and faithfully served his country in the Arkansas National Guard. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Outside of work, William enjoyed woodworking and took great pride in building beautiful furniture, cabinets, and shelving. He could often be found working on cars, tackling projects around the house, or spending time with the people he loved most. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, or simply being present, his greatest joy came from being with his family.
A devoted man of faith, William was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Texarkana for more than 50 years, where he served as a deacon. His life reflected his love for God, his family, and his church. He was known as a hardworking family man whose kindness, wisdom, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elva and James Ward, and his brother, James Ward.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 67 years, Gerry Lynn (Sullivan) Ward; his son, David Ward and wife Rebecca of Russellville, Arkansas; his daughter, Lynn Ward Hamel and husband Scot of Lufkin, Texas; his grandchildren, Ashley Hamel, Casey Freeman and husband James, Caleb Ward and wife Ella Claire, Ryan Hamel and wife Savannah, Jacob Hamel and wife Alexandria, and Grace Hamel; his great-grandchildren, Alex Freeman, Rosie Freeman, and Oaklee Hamel, along with two more great-grandsons expected this fall; his brother, Ritchie Ward and wife Connie of San Antonio, Texas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
William’s legacy is one of faith, dedication, craftsmanship, and unconditional love for his family. His example of hard work, humility, and service will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered forever.
