Main Street Texarkana Launches ‘Light Up West Broad Street’ Campaign in Response to Community Survey

Main Street Texarkana is launching the Light Up West Broad Street Campaign in response to community feedback. The campaign will raise $125,000 in matching funds to extend string lighting along West Broad Street, completing the vision already established on East Broad Street.

The campaign follows a recent community survey in which participants consistently identified better lighting, increased safety, and continued downtown revitalization as the most wanted changes.

“The Light Up West Broad Street campaign is about creating a downtown that feels welcoming, vibrant, and connected,” said Ina McDowell, Executive Director of Main Street Texarkana. “Our community told us through the survey that improving lighting, enhancing safety, and investing in beautification are priorities. This project is a direct response to that feedback, and we’re excited to partner with our community to bring this vision to life.”

Decorative lighting has already changed the character of East Broad Street, encouraging visitors to stay longer, explore more businesses, and enjoy downtown well into the evening. Extending that lighting west will create a single, unified downtown corridor rather than a district that brightens on one end and fades on the other. Every dollar raised will be matched, doubling the impact of each gift.

“Every contribution, regardless of size, helps move this project forward,” said Virginia Trammell, Board President of Main Street Texarkana. “We want every donor to know that they are helping create something that future generations will enjoy. This is an opportunity to leave a lasting mark on Downtown Texarkana.”
