Junior League of Texarkana’s Shoes for the Soul & Clothes for a Cause Helps Children Shop for Essentials
Junior League of Texarkana’s Shoes for the Soul & Clothes for a Cause lets children shop with a League member to get the shoes, socks, and clothing they need — serving 120 children this year (60 in the fall and 60 in the spring).
The Junior League of Texarkana’s Shoes for the Soul & Clothes for a Cause program partners with local schools to identify children in need of shoes and clothing, then spends a morning shopping with them to make sure they have what they need. This year, the program is serving about 120 children.
How Shoes for the Soul & Clothes for a Cause works
School counselors refer students who could benefit, and each child shops one-on-one with a Junior League member. Every child gets $100 to spend on underwear, socks, shoes, and clothing.
The League holds the shopping events twice a year — once in the fall and once in the spring. This year, it will serve 120 children total: 60 in the fall and 60 in the spring.
“This is one of my personal favorite projects, and it’s what got me really excited to be in the League,” said Junior League of Texarkana President Jade Harris. “We’re actually serving 120 kids this year — 60 in the fall and 60 in the spring.”

Parents and guardians whose children might benefit can contact their child’s school counselor, who will assess the child’s needs and determine whether they qualify for the shopping experience.

Mistletoe Market returns this November
The League’s Mistletoe Market runs November 19 through 22, and every penny raised goes toward projects like Shoes for the Soul & Clothes for a Cause and Teacher Take Wing, which funds classroom needs for local educators.

“We’re always taking people that want to join the League — all of that information on how to join and be a part of it is on our website,” Harris said. “If people want to support, they can definitely come out to Mistletoe Market, because everything we get from that is going to go to this and can help us clothe another child.”
