Bail At $500K For Man Accused Of Shooting In Nash Residence
TEXARKANA, Texas–A man accused of shooting his cousin at a home in Nash, Texas, last week has been charged with aggravated assault and is being held in the Bowie County jail with bail set at $500,000.
Trayvon Oneal Griffin, 27, allegedly shot his 37-year-old cousin multiple times the night of Sept. 22 in a house located in the 200 block of Blocker Lane in Nash, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The shooting victim told police who responded to a call shortly before 10 p.m., that he had left for the store earlier that evening and found he had been locked out of the house when he returned. A woman living in the home told police she had locked the shooting victim out because she did not want him to continue “to argue and fight with other residents in the home.”
When the shooting victim forced his way back inside, he and Griffin allegedly became involved in a physical altercation, with Griffin ending the confrontation with gunplay, the affidavit said.
Griffin allegedly used a silver handgun to shoot his cousin in the left side of his chest, left forearm, left armpit and the lower left side of his back. The shooting victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Several spent rounds of .380 ammunition and a bullet fragment were observed by officers in the dining room, the affidavit said. Griffin was located in a bedroom with a silver handgun within his reach on the armrest of a chair.
Griffin allegedly told officers that the shooting victim had obtained a knife from the kitchen before the shooting.
Griffin is currently serving a 10-year term of felony probation in Bowie County for aggravated assault involving a weapon and a family or household member that began in October 2018, records show. As a convicted felon, Griffin was prohibited from possession of firearms and ammunition.
If convicted of aggravated assault involving the shooting last week in Nash, Griffin faces two to 20 years in prison. A motion to revoke his probation has also been filed and could result in time behind bars.
The case is assigned to Fifth District Judge Bill Miller. Griffin is represented by the Bowie County Public Defender’s Office.
