Quail Tools plans 44-acre expansion at TexAmericas Center in New Boston

NEW BOSTON, Texas — Quail Tools is getting a lot more room to grow.

TexAmericas Center announced Aug. 11 that Superior Energy Services, Quail Tools’ parent company, is purchasing approximately 44 acres adjacent to the company’s existing facility at the New Boston industrial park to expand its tubular rental operations.

The additional property is planned to accommodate rental tubulars, manufacturing, repair, equipment storage and related support functions, increasing capacity at the New Boston location and strengthening Quail Tools’ ability to serve oil and gas customers throughout the region.

Superior Energy Services plans to make a significant capital investment in the facility and supporting infrastructure, with groundbreaking anticipated later this year. Hiring plans will commence as project development progresses and operational needs are finalized, according to the announcement.

“Quail Tools has established an important operation at TexAmericas Center, and this project gives the company a direct path to expand on that foundation,” said Scott Norton, chief executive officer and executive director of TexAmericas Center. “The ability to secure additional acreage beside an existing facility, use infrastructure already in place and plan for long-term growth is exactly the kind of flexibility we work to provide our tenants.”

First major move under new ownership

The expansion comes almost exactly a year after Quail Tools changed hands. Houston-based Superior Energy Services acquired the company from Nabors Industries in August 2025 in a $600 million deal that nearly doubled Superior’s tubular inventory. Nabors had picked up Quail Tools only months earlier through its March 2025 acquisition of Parker Wellbore, which had owned the rental firm since 1996.

Founded in 1978 by Robert “Bob” White and headquartered in New Iberia, Louisiana, Quail Tools has grown into one of the country’s leading providers of high-performance downhole tubulars for onshore drilling operations. Its rental inventory includes drill pipe, heavyweight drill pipe, drill collars, tubing and handling tools, and the company operates service centers in Texas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, North Dakota and West Virginia in addition to its Louisiana headquarters.

Equipment is stored and maintained at those regional service centers before being transported to customer job sites. After deployment, equipment is returned for cleaning, inspection and recertification — the maintenance and quality-assurance cycle the New Boston branch supports for drilling and production activity across the region.

For Quail Tools, the location of the new acreage was central to the decision. Expanding directly beside its current facility allows the company to keep a unified operational footprint, coordinate equipment movement, inspection, manufacturing, repair and storage in one place, and leverage infrastructure already on the ground.

“Expanding next to our existing facility gives us an efficient path to add capacity and strengthen the work we already perform in New Boston,” said Ron Schumacher, facilities/operations support for the company. “We can leverage infrastructure already in place, bring additional operational functions together in one location and preserve the flexibility needed for future growth.”

Another win for TexAmericas Center

The deal adds to a string of growth announcements at the industrial park, which spans roughly 12,000 development-ready acres and about 3.5 million square feet of commercial and industrial space on the Texas side of the Texarkana metro. Employment at the park has more than doubled over the past five years, climbing from about 650 jobs to more than 1,500, with annual on-site payroll now topping $95 million.

Business Facilities magazine has ranked TexAmericas Center among the top 10 industrial parks in the country for seven consecutive years, most recently at No. 5 in 2026. The park is also one of just 32 sites nationwide in Union Pacific’s Focus Sites Program, and its properties carry federal Opportunity Zone, Foreign Trade Zone and Texas Enterprise Zone designations.

Because TexAmericas Center serves as the authority having jurisdiction over development on its property, the organization says companies can save 12 to 18 months of public review time — a factor it credits for faster speed-to-occupancy for projects like the Quail Tools expansion.
