Texarkana, Texas police arrested two people early Thursday after a burglary at a business in the 2200 block of S. Lake Drive, with a K9 track and quick teamwork leading officers to the suspects nearby.

Officers responded to the business around 1:30 a.m. after a burglar alarm went off. When they arrived, they found the glass in the front door shattered and signs that someone had forced their way inside.

The suspects grabbed the cash register on their way in, but their luck ran out fast. Before they made it out the door, they discovered there was no cash inside and left the register behind.

Officers set up a perimeter while K9 Gator began tracking from the scene. He picked up a scent and headed straight toward the nearby Sunset Apartments as other officers canvassed the area.

While checking the apartment complex, Officers Cody Roberson and Cody Cox made contact with two men standing outside an apartment. Officers said one of them was wearing the same clothing as a suspect seen inside the business on surveillance video. The other man appeared to have changed clothes but still had glass shards on his hands from the shattered door.

Avontray Cleamons, 19, and Roberlynsti McHenry, 17, were both arrested for burglary of a building and booked into the Bi-State Jail. Bond for each was set at $15,000.

Police credited the arrests to a quick response and teamwork among officers.
