Authorities are asking for the community’s assistance in identifying a young male who died following a shooting incident early Wednesday morning on North Park Road.
As of 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, detectives report that they have been unable to identify the deceased. Police described him as a Black male, believed to be approximately 15 years old.
Investigators are urging anyone who may be missing a family member fitting this description to come forward immediately so that his next of kin can be notified.
“Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones, who may be searching for answers right now,” the police department said in a statement. “If you are unable to account for a family member today who matches this general description, or have information that could help, please contact us so we can help bring clarity.”
The investigation stems from an event that occurred earlier today at approximately 4:20 a.m.
According to police reports, a homeowner on N. Park Road confronted two individuals who appeared to be attempting to break into a vehicle. During the confrontation, one of the suspects—the teen now deceased—was shot. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to police, they have also not yet been able to identify the second individual who was present during the attempted break-in.
