The Texas A&M University-Texarkana women’s soccer team has qualified for the Red River Athletic Conference tournament following a 10-1 win Saturday over the University of the Southwest of New Mexico.
A newcomer to the RRAC, the #5 seed Eagles will play the #4 seed Wiley College on Friday, Nov. 4, at 3 p.m. on the campus of Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. The Eagles women’s soccer team finished with an overall record of 12-6 and 5-4 in RRAC play, while Wiley College finished with an overall record of 8-3-2 and 5-2-2 in RRAC play.
The winner of Friday’s game will go on to Houston, Texas, on Nov. 10-11 to play in the RRAC final four with a conference championship on the line and an automatic berth into first round of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national tournament.
“This is A&M-Texarkana’s first season in the Red River Athletic Conference, so it is quite an accomplishment for our student-athletes and Coach Don Koontz,” said Michael Galvan, director of athletics.
“I am extremely proud of our student-athletes and what they have done up to this point; however, I want this to be expected each and every year along with the opportunity to become Academic All-Americans, which would be the icing on the cake. It is a great day to be an Eagle.”
