The Gathering of Authors held a Bake Sale Extravaganza Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Walmart Neighborhood Market of Summerhill to raise funds for their much anticipated fall Gathering of Authors event.
They had all kinds of cookies, cakes, and pies stretched as far as the eye could see to help raise the remaining $4,000 needed to put on their event. They had several items and desserts donated to them from people and businesses in the community, as well as Whisk Catering, owned by Amanda Bowers of the Gathering of Authors.
“The event is 2 weeks away and we are in desperate need of funding to put on this free community event,” Said Bowers.
The Fall Gathering of Authors is a free community event where Authors from all over the country come together. Their goal is to “find a cure through literacy” and their proceeds go to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“This is our 8th Year to host this event and were fortunate that it has grown every year,” said Bowers.
The event will take place Saturday, October 28, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Texarkana Arkansas Convention Center. There will be door prizes as well as a host of well-known authors, such as John T. Wayne, grandson of John Wayne; Penny Richards, Harlequin writer; and Patty Wiseman, a well-known East-Texas writer.
They would like to thank Dr. Naples and the Convention Center for being such a huge help in orchestrating the event.
If you weren’t able to make it to the bake sale you can still help support this amazing group by visiting their website gatheringofauthors.com and donating.
“We’re looking to the community to help raise the remaining amount of money we need for the event,” said Bowers.
