TEXARKANA, TX — Keep Texarkana Beautiful (KTB), in partnership with the Texarkana Museums System and local landscape architect Bryan Callaway, has begun work on a courtyard revitalization project at the Museum of Regional History in downtown Texarkana, USA. The project is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Located in the heart of the Texarkana Arts & Historic District, the Regional Museum serves as both a historic landmark and a welcome center to downtown. As anticipated redevelopment continues around the museum, the project aims to enhance the museum’s exterior while creating a more inviting, sustainable and educational space for the community to enjoy.

The revitalization includes improvements to the museum’s existing landscaping, irrigation system and retaining walls. New landscaping will feature native and pollinator-friendly plants suited to the region, along with educational signage identifying plant species and highlighting the importance of pollinators such as bees and butterflies to the local ecosystem.

Keep Texarkana Beautiful Marketing and City Liaison Brooke Stone said she looks forward to turning the space into something the entire community can enjoy.

“I originally brought this idea to the committee as a potential beautification project in the new year, but we have an incredible team who were excited to take it a step further,” Stone said. “We hope this new space serves as an educational tool for residents of all ages and complements the continued investment taking place across the district.”

Museum Director Ana Willis said she looks forward to the revitalization of the area for residents and visitors alike.

“Our museum welcomes guests from across the world every day, and the courtyard should reflect the pride we have in our community,” Willis said. “I’m incredibly grateful to Keep Texarkana Beautiful for recognizing this and truly making this vision possible.”

Additional enhancements are planned for the property, including a future water feature, improved exterior lighting to highlight the historic building and courtyard, and a new combination trash and recycling receptacle for visitors and pedestrians. The project is made possible with Community Development Corporation funds through the City of Texarkana, Texas, as well as grant funding from the Arkansas Community Foundation.
