The LEISD School Board voted last night to modify the 2015-2016 school calendar to fit the new guidelines of HB 2610. This bill changes the student attendance requirements from 180 days per year to 76,500 minutes per year.
For LEISD, that means the new last day of school for students will be May 26 instead of June 3. Early release days scheduled for November 20 and February 25 will now be full days.
Beginning in the Spring 2016 semester, the Primary school day will be extended 5 minutes and will run from 7:55 to 3:10. This only affects the Primary school.

The changes to the student attendance requirements do not affect teacher contracts which still require 187 days of service. Teachers will work until June 7.
Summer school will begin the week of May 30 and will utilize teachers still on contract. This will allow students to finish summer school earlier than before and will reduce summer school costs by using teachers still under contract.
