New Boston Man Accused of Grooming 10-Year-Old Girl for Sex

Derek Shane Kimbrell, 28, was arrested after investigators found disturbing photos and Snapchat messages between him and a 10-year-old girl.

NEW BOSTON, Texas — Bail has been set at $100,000 for a New Boston man accused of grooming a 10-year-old girl for sex.

Derek Shane Kimbrell, 28, was arrested last week following an investigation by the New Boston Police Department. Kimbrell came to the attention of investigators after the girl’s mother reported finding “concerning communications” on her daughter’s phone and made a report June 30, according to court records filed Monday.

During a search of cell phone data, investigators allegedly found a photo of the girl sitting on Kimbrell’s lap “leaned back in a pink shirt that appears to be pulled up” as well as photos of Kimbrell kissing the girl on the lips, records state.

The investigation further revealed several photos of the girl’s crotch area which appeared to have been taken without her consent as well as photos of Kimbrell and the girl “laying on each other” which appeared inappropriate between a child and adult, records state.

Snapchat messages allegedly showed that Kimbrell often told the child he loved her and was actively keeping up with her daily activities and where she was.

Kimbrell is facing two to ten years in prison if convicted of child grooming.

Kimbrell is represented by the Bowie County Public Defender’s Office. The case has been assigned to 102nd District Judge Jeff Addison.
