Texarkana College Criminal Justice student, Colton Phelps, received a $500 scholarship from Employment Professionals today in a check ceremony held in the lobby of the Nelson Administration Building.

Faculty and staff gathered with Joey Martin, owner of Express Employment Professionals of Texarkana, to present Colton with a check for $500. Colton was chosen as the recipient of the scholarship after careful consideration of applications from several outstanding criminal justice students at Texarkana College.

“We thank you for all that you are going to do for our community Colton, but thank you is really not enough,” said Martin.

Express Employment Professionals awards this scholarship for $250 per semester for two semesters (total of $500) to give assistance to a student pursuing criminal justice as a career path. The purpose of the scholarship fund is to support law enforcement in our community.

Phelps has a high GPA of 3.8 and has received all A’s in the last two semesters.

“It’s been almost a decade since I was in school and I would like to thank the professors and the staff of Texarkana College for making the transition back into school easier than I thought it would be,” said Phelps.

After graduating with his AAS, Colton plans to go on to Texas A&M Texarkana to pursue his Bachelor degree.

“It’s a hard time to become a police officer right now, but it’s also the best time,” said Phelps.
