Texarkana Joins National Wave Marking 9/11’s 25th Anniversary With ‘Come From Away’

Texarkana will join more than 450 communities across the country this September in marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11 — not by reliving the tragedy, but by celebrating the compassion it inspired. The Texarkana Repertory Company will present the award-winning musical “Come From Away” in six performances over the weekends of Sept. 11 and 18 at the Stilwell Theatre on the Texarkana College campus.

The production opens TexRep’s 35th season and is part of a nationwide wave of communities staging the show around the anniversary.

“Come From Away” tells the true story of the roughly 7,000 air passengers from around the world who were grounded in Gander, Newfoundland, on Sept. 11, 2001, when U.S. airspace closed. The small Canadian town welcomed the stranded travelers — the “come from aways” — into their homes and lives with open hearts.

The musical became a Broadway smash, known for its soaring score and a story organizers say leaves audiences “better than they were.” TexRep is encouraging residents to gather friends, family and co-workers to share in what it calls a celebration of hope, humanity and unity.

Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings, Sept. 11, 12, 18 and 19, and 2 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 13 and 20.

Tickets are $15 for regular admission and $12 for seniors and students, with tickets for TexRep memberships. Special discounts are available for Texarkana College students and faculty, first responders, and those making Texarkana Animal League donations.

Tickets can be purchased at TexRep.org or by calling 903-831-7827. The Stilwell Theatre is on the Texarkana College campus at 2500 N. Robison Road, Texarkana, TX 75503.
