With an emphasis on international cuisine and locally sourced ingredients, TISD will revolutionize most parents understanding of the typical school lunch.

Director of Child Nutrition, Christie Lammers has this to say, “We are committed to increasing students access to whole, fresh foods by embracing clean label commitments and an approach to menu development that decreases the use of processed foods and promotes the use of scratch prepared chiet created, diverse menus featuring locally sourced products.”

TISD’s goal is to provide students with a nutritious variety of easily accessible food. Chief Cory House created a menu that reflects the modern tastes of today’s youth. Featured are diverse selections which will include ethnic cuisines from India, Asia, Italy, America, Thailand, France, Greece and Mexico.

Students should not be surprised to taste delectable offerings such as: Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, Salsa Verde Pork Street Tacos, Korean Chicken Tacos, Creamy Street Corn, or Spring Berry Salad.

Build Your Own Breakfast Bars will also be on all TISD campuses. Students will be able to customize their breakfast plate with a choice of: eight great grains, four protein sources, fresh whole fruits and 100% fruit juice, several choices of milk, vegetarian options, fruit smoothies, fruit and yogurt parfaits and vegetable options. Grab and Go breakfast meals area also made ready for busy students on the move.

Where to eat has as many options as what to eat. Innovative dining opportunities for TISD students will include Food Court dining at secondary level campuses offering up to five themed menu lines featuring thirty daily entree selections.

Other dining experiences include Food Carts strategically stationed around locker rooms and in hallways to serve busy students at their convenience. Additionally, the Tiger Food Truck will travel to local secondary campuses offering trendy food which meets the Texas Department of Agriculture regulations. All students, regardless of their payment status, will be able to enjoy the different Tiger Food Truck items.

The TISD Child Nutrition Department has been recognized by the Texas Department of Agriculture as a Best of the Bunch Award recipient for their efforts in incorporating more Texas products into meals and teaching children about healthy lifestyles and Texas agriculture. It is estimated that over one-fourth of the TISD food budget is spent in Texas.
