According to media reports the suspect, Meechaiel Criner, in the killing of a UT Austin freshman is from Texarkana.
Meechaiel Criner, 17, was charged with the murder of Haruka Weiser today by the Austin Police Department. Her body was found on campus Tuesday.
The connection was made by national media to Texarkana from a 2014 Tiger Times article about Criner.
Austin Police described Criner as homeless.
In the 2014 Tiger Times article Criner talked about his experiences being bullied.
Criner’s bond has been set at $1 million. According to KSLA News, his grandmother has not seen him in Texarkana since August. View the full arrest affidavit.
