The Numbers Are Moving: Texarkana ISD Sees Academic Growth Across Every Campus
TEXARKANA, TEXAS – The Texas Education Agency today released its 2026 accountability ratings, and the results tell a story of measurable academic progress across Texarkana Independent School District.
Every Texarkana ISD campus demonstrated academic growth during the 2026 accountability cycle. While each campus is at a different point in its journey, the results reflect meaningful gains across the district and reinforce that focused instruction, dedicated educators, and committed students are advancing achievement.
That progress can be seen in many ways. Morriss Elementary and Options Early Graduation High School earned A ratings. Wake Village Elementary finished just one point shy of an A while earning A ratings in school progress for academic growth. Texas Middle School achieved more than 20 points of academic growth. Texas High School and the Digital Academy of Texas earned multiple academic distinctions, and Parks Elementary, Nash Elementary, and Waggoner Creek Elementary all demonstrated measurable academic growth. Among the district’s highest-performing campuses, Morriss Elementary earned an A rating with an overall score of 97 and received all six eligible academic distinction designations. Options Early Graduation High School earned an A rating with a score of 95 while maintaining a 100 percent graduation rate.
Wake Village Elementary earned an overall score of 89, just one point shy of an A, and an A rating in Academic Growth, placing it in the top 25% statewide.
One of the district’s most significant improvement stories came from Texas Middle School, where students and staff achieved more than 20 points of academic growth. The results reflect the focused work underway to accelerate student achievement and demonstrate that sustained improvement efforts are producing measurable gains.
Additional progress was evident throughout the district. Texas High School earned two academic distinctions, while the Digital Academy of Texas earned three academic distinctions recognizing outstanding student achievement.
Parks Elementary demonstrated measurable academic growth while successfully bringing two school communities together on a single campus. Nash Elementary and Waggoner Creek Elementary also continued to make meaningful academic gains.
“We’re proud of the progress reflected in this year’s accountability results because it represents the hard work of our students, teachers, principals, support staff, and families,” said Interim Superintendent Sherri Penix. “These results show that our efforts to strengthen teaching and learning are making a difference for students across Texarkana ISD.”
The interim superintendent emphasized that the district remains committed to transparency and continuous improvement.
“We also recognize that our work isn’t finished,” Ms. Penix said. “While these results give us many reasons to celebrate, they also identify areas where we must continue to improve. We remain committed to providing every campus with the support, resources, and leadership needed to make sure every student has the opportunity to succeed.”
District leaders emphasized that accountability ratings are one measure of school performance and provide valuable information for celebrating success, identifying opportunities for improvement, and guiding future decisions.
