Tuesday Update – Officials Monitoring Levees Around the Clock

Emergency management officials are monitoring and working on the levees north of Texarkana around the clock.   Workers are taking measurements along key points of the levee every two hours night and day.

Numerous agencies from across the state and county are providing assistance and manpower the vast majority of which are all volunteer.

Assistance is being provided by all the fire departments from across Bowie County, Bowie County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Texas DPS Troopers, Texas Game Wardens, Bowie County & TDCJ inmates, Texarkana street department, Marine Corps Reserves, Bowie County OEM, Texarkana, Texas Police Department, Texarkana Firefighters Association and LifeNet.

Employees from Coca-Cola provided a BBQ lunch to all the volunteers for lunch Tuesday and Olive Garden delivered dinner to the staging area at Pleasant Grove Volunteer Fire Department.

The nearest water level gauge at Index Bridge indicates the water will crest Tuesday night at 31.2 feet a rise of about .2 ft.

Highway 71, 259, and 8 all remain closed. I-30 and 67 at Fulton, Ark. are open.

At pecan point on U.S> 259 it is currently at 34.64 ft. forecast to crest tonight at 34.9 ft.
