Warrants issued for driver accused of fleeing officer, killing motorcyclist on State Line Avenue

TEXARKANA, Ark. — The Arkansas State Police has obtained warrants for Rkeavius Morrison in connection with the Sept. 2 fatal motorcycle crash on North State Line Avenue, the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department announced.

Morrison is wanted on one count of fleeing by vehicle resulting in serious physical injury or death and one count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious physical injury or death.

The incident began when a Texarkana Arkansas police officer attempted to contact Morrison, who appeared to be unconscious behind the wheel, police said. According to TXK Today’s earlier reporting, the officer reported a car sitting in a turn lane at State Line Avenue and Arkansas Boulevard about 9:27 p.m., with the driver passed out, the vehicle in gear and the driver’s foot on the brake.

About 9:29 p.m., the driver woke up and took off, cutting through a nearby CVS parking lot at a high rate of speed before heading north on State Line Avenue, according to the prior reporting. The officer reported a speed of 63 mph moments before the crash. Police said Morrison recklessly drove away from the officer at a high rate of speed before colliding with a motorcycle near Realtor Avenue about 9:30 p.m.

The motorcycle operator died at the scene. The car caught fire after the crash, and the driver ran from the scene. Morrison fled the area following the crash and remains wanted, police said.

The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time.

Anyone with information regarding Morrison’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 903-798-3154. Police warn the public not to attempt to apprehend Morrison and to call 911 if immediate police assistance is needed.

This remains an active investigation, and police said additional information will be released as appropriate.

All criminal charges are allegations, and Morrison is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
