A woman who attacked and robbed a 44-year-old man she met on Craigslist last year was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday as part of a plea bargain.

Anquenette Nicole Ross, 37, appeared with public defender Chad Crowl for a hearing Monday afternoon before 5th District Judge Bill Miller in a Bowie County courtroom. Assistant District Attorney Lauren Richards prosecuted the aggravated robbery case. A co-defendant in the case, Darrius “D.J.” Darrell Moreland, appeared in court Monday as well. Miller scheduled him for a jury trial next month.

Ross arranged to meet her victim Oct. 24 in room 117 at the Rodeway Inn in Texarkana, Texas, a probable cause affidavit states. When the man knocked on the door, Ross invited him in and told him to get comfortable. As Ross stepped into the powder room, the man took off his shoes and pants and took a seat on a sofa.

A short time later, Ross walked out of the bathroom with a stun gun and asked the victim if he was a cop. When he replied no, Ross asked the man if he was going to cooperate and demanded he hand over, “everything he had. Wallet, keys, phone.”

Ross called a name and a man who stepped out of the bathroom attacked the victim by punching and kicking him into unconsciousness. When the victim woke later in a local hospital, he told officers his company car, wallet, keys and iPhone were missing. A maid at the motel told police she recognized Ross as she walked out of the room where the assault occurred and that Ross asked her to “cover for,” her.

The maid told investigators Ross was carrying belongings to a small sedan where a man sat behind the wheel. She contacted 911 when she found the victim lying on the motel room floor unconscious with blood covering his face.

Moreland is currently free on bond. He faces five to 99 years or life if convicted.
