Ann Giles Brown
Ann was born in Bright Star, AR on October 30, 1936 to Hariotte Asbury Martin Giles and William (Bill) Ardie Giles. After graduating as Valedictorian from Bright Star High School, Ann married her high school sweetheart, George Gibson Brown. Pursuing a degree in Economics and Bookkeeping, Ann graduated with honors from Southern State University. She taught Economics, Bookkeeping and Math at multiple high schools over the course of her early life.
Ann devoted herself to her three children for 20 years, while her husband George’s career took their family to multiple states across the southern part of the country before settling in Texarkana and starting their own business, Brown Chemical together. For 13 years, Ann and George worked in tandem providing essential resources to local farmers. Ann, who always had a mind for business, provided the necessary infrastructure to maintain a thriving business and after George’s unexpected passing continued Brown Chemical for another 7 years.
In the years after closing the business, Ann continued to work for the local community by serving on the McKinney Bayou and Garland levee boards. Ann was known for her fierce advocacy for tax paying citizens and as a faithful member to the First United Methodist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas for 50 years.
She is survived by her son George Anthony (Tony) Brown, daughter Susan Brown Moore and husband Marvin (Marty) Moore, daughter Lisa Brown Poag and husband Robert (Bob) Poag, five grandchildren Michael Curtis Moore and wife Cathryn (Caty) Rogers Moore, Haley Noel Brown, Kayla Renee Moore, George Gibson Brown II, and Ethan Alexander (Alex) Poag, one great grandchild Melody Jude Moore and her sister Emma Jane Giles Sams and husband Dennis Sams and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband George Gibson Brown, her parents William (Bill) Ardie Giles and Harriotte Asbury Martin Giles, brothers Raymond Curtis Giles, Roger Asbury Giles and William Ardie Giles Jr.
Throughout the last 10 months of her life, Ann received thorough and loving care from MDAnderson in Houston, The Cottages of Texarkana, Hospice of Texarkana and her church First United Methodist Church of Texarkana, AR. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this time. Everyone is invited to a brief graveside committal and reception at Mount Zion Cemetery in Doddridge, AR.
Pallbearers include Michael Moore, Gibson Brown, Alex Poag, Jeffrey Sams, Cobie Bearden & B.J. Clinton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or MDAnderson and online tributes may be submitted to www.eastfuneralhome.com
