Emma Lou Burt, age 80, of Texarkana, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 18, 2026, in a local nursing home surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Burt was born on August 07, 1946, in Texarkana, Arkansas. Mrs. Burt was a dedicated retired Teacher Aide who faithfully served the students at Fouke Independent School District. Her love for children extended beyond the classroom. She tutored students in mathematics, offered guidance and support to children who were struggling, and served as a mentor and positive role model to many young boys and girls. Her patience, compassion, and willingness to help others left a lasting impact on the lives of countless students and families.

Emma was a devoted and loving matriarch of her family, always making sure that everyone was cared for and had what they needed. Her family was her greatest joy, and she dedicated herself to loving, supporting, and encouraging those around her. Emma was a selfless and ever-giving person, always willing to put the needs of others before her own.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everette and Doris Givens, and her husband, John Winemiller, and her sister, Gloria Franklin.

She is survived by her two sons and one daughter-in-law, Grayson and Andrea Burt of Nash, Texas; David Burt of Texarkana, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Debra Givens of Atlanta, Texas; and one sister and brother-in-law, Dianna and Stephen Stiles of Spring, Texas; her step-granddaughter, Avangelyn Gretzmier , her grand dog, Finn, whom she enjoyed their visits in the nursing home; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she cherished.

The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Avir Cowhorn Creek and Heritage Hospice for the exceptional care, kindness, and love they showed Emma throughout her illness.

A celebration of Emma’s life will be on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 10:00 A. M. at Macedonia Baptist Church, with Rev. George Goynes, Dr. Randy Hawkins, and Rev. John Given officiating.

The family will receive friends at Texarkana Arkansas Funeral Home on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 4:30 P. M. to 6:30 P. M.
